In 2019, the Belarusian defeated the Czech in their first meeting at the WTA Elite Trophy. They didn't meet again until the 2023 French Open semifinal, when Muchova beat Sabalenka in three sets. The 29-year-old Czech also defeated the world No. 1 in their 2023 Cincinnati and 2024 Beijing clashes.
Sabalenka wrapped up the match in just 79 minutes to claim her third Brisbane title in four years, with Kostyuk simply having no answer throughout. In her victory speech, she sent a pointed message to her boyfriend Georgios Frangulis, a Brazilian businessman who is estimated to be worth around £80million.
